Ali Murphy

I graduated with my Masters in Social Work from the University of Michigan in 2014 where I focused my studies on children, youth and family therapeutic approaches. Since graduation, I have gained experience working with teens in schools, juvenile court and municipal mental health settings from Detroit to Indianapolis and now Noblesville and the surrounding Hamilton County community. This has prepared me to engage kids from varied backgrounds with all different struggles.

Outside of work, I spend most of my time as a mom to 2 but enjoy crafting and the outdoors.

Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life.

My philosophy

Research has shown that the most important part of therapy is the relationship between the clinician and clients; I have found this to be exceptionally true with teens and kids. They are in a unique place in development.

Biologically speaking, teens and kids are ready to test their independence. With still developing brains, they are experiencing complex emotions while having an inexperienced capacity to process and cope appropriately. I find that tapping into their need for autonomy by teaching them about their brains helps gain trust and understanding.

Additionally, I help teens advocate for their needs as well as voice their feelings in a respectful and responsible way. I find that having family sessions focused on giving teens a neutral environment to discuss their feelings is extremely helpful to aid in parent conversations.
